Nickels and Dimes
She comes home to find him rolling her dimes
Quarters stacked up on the tables in lines
Hoping to buy himself some free time
She's buying groceries, she's paying rent
At the end of the month she wonders where it all went
Adding up all the time she's spent
She doesnt' measure his worth by the things he can get
But a little hard work never killed a man yet
She's begging for answers and scrounging for signs
He's looking away and feeding her lines
Hoping to buy a little more free time
She wonders where all of his interest went
And she knows this won't break her, but it sure leaves a dent
Adding up all the time she's spent
And if love is a gamble, you gotta lay down your bets
And that first fatal flush is so hard to forget
You can keep on playing til you're neck-deep in debt
But sometimes a raw deal is all that you get
He comes home to find she's left him behind
With a note sayin' don't worry baby, I'm fine
It's just I can't afford anymore of your time
I never measured your worth by the things you could get
But a little hard work never killed a man yet
